St Vincent De Paul

St Mary (Our Lady Help Of Christians) Paisley Conference

Who We Are

Our Conference was established in 1888 and has worked within the Parish Community for over 130 years. We have seven members at the moment and are always on the lookout for parishioners who would be willing to support the poor in our parish and in the wider community which our parish serves.

Our Meetings

We meet every two weeks with the exception of during school holidays as members are often required for extra babysitting duties at these times and also go on annual holidays. There are therefore about twenty meetings per annum. The weeks when we have no meeting are often spent making visits to the poor or lonely within the parish community.

What We Do

We distribute up to ten food parcels every week after 10.30 Mass on Sundays. These contain breakfast cereal, tea/coffee, pasta, meat/fish, soup, beans, milk and biscuits.
When someone is housed off the homeless list we can supply small electrical goods like a microwave, kettle and toaster. We can also supply bed linen, towels and curtains. We can help to kick start electricity and can obtain basic furniture from donations made to the SSVP furniture project.
We support a number of families on low income or when unemployment strikes.

Mission To The World

We give financial support to four special works conferences which operate within the diocese:-

Our Lady of the Wayside Conference which provides hot meals two nights per week to those in need.

St. Vincent’s Hospice Conference which supports the patients in the Hospice and their families.

The Holy Spirit Conference which supports those being helped in drug or alcohol rehabilitation programmes by the Jericho Benedictines.

Rosalie Rendu Conference which runs the Ozanam Club fortnightly for people with Special Needs.

The Little Flower in Ezhupunna South in Kerala India. This conference helps to feed orphans, provide medical treatment for the poor and transport to Mass for the infirm.

Please speak to any member of the Conference at the back of the Church on Sundays if you know of anyone who needs help or if you would like to join us. Thank you all for your ongoing generosity.
